Counseling Services Supervisor

My Sister’s Place, Inc. (MSP) is a community based non-profit organization that provides comprehensive and holistic direct services via intervention, prevention, educational programs and services to battered women and their children.



Under the supervision of Program Director, coordinate and oversee the delivery of services to clients receiving counseling from MSP’s Counseling Center to ensure successful program operations; provide individual and group counseling to victims of domestic violence.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise counselors, staying apprised of all Counseling Center activities, new initiatives, and the progress of ongoing programs;

• Provide ongoing supervision of staff;

• Provide formal and informal feedback on and evaluation of staff performance;

• Oversee management of the Counseling Center;

• Perform telephone assessments with callers to offer crisis intervention, safety planning; referral services, and determine eligibility for MSP counseling services;

• Conduct assessments of women in Counseling Center Services and MSP Emergency Housing to determine therapeutic needs;

• Conduct individual counseling for adult clients of MSP;

• Oversee the development and delivery of group counseling for adults at the Counseling Center and MSP Emergency Housing;

• Develop safety plans with clients who are in danger of abuse, as appropriate;

• Conduct psychosocial assessments of individual clients in Counseling Center services and MSP Emergency Housing to determine additional therapeutic needs;

• Make referrals to clients to receive additional supportive services and interventions as needed;

• Collaborate with area service providers in addressing individual client needs;

• Design workshops for clients and coordinate various presenters for support groups, as appropriate;

• Participate in staff meetings, as requested;

• Assist with agency committees to develop new initiatives and projects;

• Assist with annual budget and grant writing processes;

• Provide appropriate data for and assist with writing of grant reports;

• Complete evaluation tools and gather data to measure client progress;

• Ensure that accurate records and files are maintained for each client;

• Oversee and assist with training and supervision of volunteers and interns as needed;

• Complete monthly reports to the Executive Director;

• Represent MSP in community meetings and present on domestic violence issues to the public and community as needed

• Assist in the interviewing of job candidates;

• Assist in coverage of MSP’s hotline as needed

• Assist with agency-wide initiatives

• Perform other duties as requested



QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other human services related degree;

• License required;

• Three or more years of supervisory experience;

• Four or more years experience in delivering individual and group counseling services;

• In-depth understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and the effects of domestic violence on women and their children.



ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Familiarity with the grant writing and grant reporting processes;

• Strong ability to work independently as well as on a team;

• Strong written and oral communication skills;

• Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals, groups and communities;

• Skilled in working with sensitive issues and commitment to respecting the confidential nature of MSP’s programs;

• Excellent organizational skills.
