Position based in Washington, DC


JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB SUMMARY

Performs general maintenance of assigned facilities utilizing several trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating and cooling.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:



Performs day-to-day repairs, emergency maintenance, and preventative maintenance on several assigned properties or accounts.



Receives work orders for corrective repair work on a variety of building physical structures, equipment, and system components. Prepares estimates detailing the amount of time and materials needed for completing tasks. Orders the necessary materials in order to complete all necessary repairs. Finalize work orders by completing necessary paperwork.



Assist with troubleshooting and repairs of buildings and installed systems to include: packaging and handling machinery, plumbing systems, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, shop, grounds equipment and HVAC.



Assist with installation and modification of building equipment systems.



Inspect new installation for compliance with building codes and safety regulations. Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives as related to building operations and practice safe work habits.



Perform welding, carpentry and snow removal when necessary.



Participates in moving and installing furniture for office relocations.



Performs telephone installations, cabling, and telephone database changes.



Other duties may be assigned.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides informal assistance such as technical guidance and/or training to co-workers.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to two years of related experience and/or training.



CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES

None.



COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to co-workers and/or supervisors on a one-on-one basis.



FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Requires no knowledge of financial terms and principles.



REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires basic analytical skills.



OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

Must be able to use a PC for reviewing e-mail and accessing the Internet to order materials.



SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to co-workers and supervisor.
